Loans to owners of factories and commercial establishments have bottomed and are rising once again. That’s the good news.
The bad news? During past recessions the economy began reviving long before business loans did. These loans were a confirmation of past recoveries, not a cause or trigger or facilitator.

Why is food taking such a big bite out of our wallets? Less acreage available for food production and improving diets in emerging countries are a big part of it. But the biggest reason is the rising price of oil. It’s simple, says the article below from the Globe and Mail,

Grain gained 89% this past year. And it’s not done yet. Blame ethanol. 40% of grain production is siphoned off to make this government-subsidized fuel. We should take away the subsidy and import our ethanol from Brazil, where the prices are much cheaper. That would also help stabilize meat prices. From Bloomberg
