As long as politicians stumble in finding solutions to a new round of debt and banking problems, gold will do fine. But this other metal should do better.

U.S. equity markets were closed on Monday, but U.S. stock-index futures dropped sharply in light holiday volume, following declines in equities around the globe, with the euro softening and the dollar and gold gaining (futures rose above $1,900 an ounce) on worries about Europe’s debt trouble.

A funny thing happened after the debt-ceiling crisis blew over. Our actual debt crisis remained.
You see, well before Congress put on their grandest of grandstanding regarding the fiscal nightmare that is our economy…our expensive military adventures in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere had already wreaked havoc on the Federal Debt tab.

Yesterday, gold plummeted 5.6% shedding $104 in value to finish at $1,764. It was its third largest single-day drop in history. So is this a good time to buy?
